Representatives of the Greek government and departmental officials to participate

An inter-branch map exercise within the framework of preparations for the Olympic Games security program will take place in Stuttgart, Germany from Nov 3 to Nov. 5, with the cooperation of U.S.EU.COM and the US-based National Defense and Strategic Studies University. The exercise is being co-organized by the United States as a member-country of the seven-member Olympic Advisory Group, and within in the framework of Olympic training and cooperation.

The exercise`s objective is to manage crises, both on the political level as well as on the strategic/operational level. Minister of Public Order Georgios Floridis will coordinate the political aspect, while the Chief of Hellenic Police, Lt-Gen. Fotis Nassiakos will coordinate the strategic/operational aspect of the exercise.

Representatives of the primary services and branches involved in Olympic security and Olympic Games operations will participate in the delegation. Specifically, participants include Deputy National Defense Minister Lazaros Lotidis, Deputy Mass Media and Press Minister Telemachos Hytiris, the General Secretary for Civil Defense, Ioannis Georgakopoulos, the General Secretary of Health and Welfare, Haralambos Sofianos, the General Secretary of Olympic Games at the Ministry of Culture, Constantinos Kartalis, the General Secretary of the Ministry of Merchant Marine, Nikolaos Zahariadis, the head of the National Intelligence Service, Pavlos Apostolidis, the head of the Civil Aviation Authority, Stavros Constantinidis, and the Managing Director of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games Organizing Committee (ATHOC), Ioannis Spanoudakis.

Representing security forces and the Armed Forces were the Chief of the Coast Guard, Vice-Adm. Christos Delimihalis; the Chief of the Fire Brigade, Lt-Gen. Panayiotis Fourlas; the director the Joint Chiefs of the General Staff office`s Olympic Games sector, Lt-Gen. Vassilios Giannopoulos; the director of the Olympic Games Security Division, Major-Gen. Vassilios Constantinidis, as well as other high-ranking officials involved with and specializing in Olympic preparations.
